I apologize for the brevity of this announcement, Captain Jerkass is currently unavailable to write a nice and easy to read one.
Anyway! We have removed the duel plugin as it violates the new quickplay rules. Administrators and Moderators will also be enforcing the #1 rule of the server more. It's simple, "Be respectful of all other players. We have a mix of a bunch of different types of players, please treat us all equally!" - We expect all players to follow this rule especially, as it often contributes to the first impression that players get when they join our servers, and without quickplay working at full capacity it is tough to keep players on servers with people running around being rude to each other.
Also, The JVM GC has graciously posted a community raffle on tf2r.com for an earbud, be sure to enter it! http://tf2r.com/kxj9yx8.html
It appears that the quickplay update has introduced a new issue which plagues Linux dedicated running more than one server on the same IP address. This issue prevents servers from obtaining/maintaining an Item Server, VAC, and Steam Registration connection.
Because of this we have shut off all servers except Dustbowl and Match. Match will be available for use on TF2Center and Dustbowl will operate like normal until there is a patch which can solve the issues.
We have found a workaround for this! All servers are online and running fine.
I'm so sorry this happened, however I'm not sure there's a way around it at this time.
Along with this I have removed tf2items_giveweapon and the local item server. These plugins are outdated and horribly written, and for now useless.
I have just looked into the increased latency and while doing so found that the host actually confirmed this before I even sent in a ticket. There's an issue with one of the bandwidth providers' routers currently, and they are waiting on a replacement. The host has disabled the connection causing issues (for now), so unfortunately the servers are running on pure Cogent for now. This might give a little worse connection to some players, and better to others. They are hoping a replacement router will be there tomorrow, so until then please just endure it for now.
Edit: The main bandwidth provider, BroadbandONE, is back online as of about 2:30 PM EST, all issues seem to have been fixed.
As most of you are aware Valve recently changed Quickplay to default to official servers only, meaning the quickplay traffic will drop for most servers, including ProbablyAServer. So far I do not see this impacting us terribly like some other servers (35 players when they have 1,000+ slots available), so I'm certain this won't be the end of us or any other servers any time soon.
However, this "Nuclear option" as they call it does reduce quickplay traffic, meaning some servers might prematurely lose players earlier (such as Dustbowl or Badwater possibly not staying full overnight), but for now it's enough to fill and keep them filled during the day. They are saying this is a temporary change, so waiting it out seems like the best option.
I've also had reports of higher constant pings on the servers, if you're suffering from a significant ping increase please do a traceroute to probablyaserver.com (http://hosting.intermedia.net/support/kb/?id=682) and upload the text to http://paste.ee or similar and send it to me via a private message, steam message, or e-mail it to contact at probablyaserver.com. These will help us diagnose and hopefully fix any connection issues we are currently having.
We've reached the point where all of our current servers fill themselves fairly early in the day. Therefore, we are pleased to bring to you a new server, alternating between A/D and 5cp maps!
Enter connect 18.104.22.168:27030 into console to join now! Happy fragging!
Edit: In addition to this the PAS Lobby server can now be used on tf2center.com, though I'm not quite sure how this will work if multiple people try to use it (on both lobby websites too)
